A Prayer for Today: When You Feel Like Giving Up
Sometimes we feel like giving up because of the sheer weight of what life throws at us.
Life can be extremely humbling.
But you have to understand that God uses our circumstances and situations to change us, to teach us, before He takes us to new heights — to the vision and the goals He has already set out for us.
Why Do We Feel Like Giving Up?
I’ve learned that feeling like giving up usually comes from the sheer weight of life — and from trying to run everything through my own calculations instead of putting God first. The moment I actually pray and put Him first, every problem I thought was so big suddenly looks small next to Him. God uses our hardest circumstances to teach us before He carries us to the new places He’s already set out for us.
A few things that help me keep going:
- Put God first before trying to figure it out on your own
- Remember He has a purpose for you in this exact moment — He doesn’t make mistakes
- Listen for Him through prayer, meditation, and the people He’s placed in your life
- Trust that faith grows quietly, until one day you look back and barely recognize how far you’ve come
Prayer Is a Powerful Thing

Prayer is a powerful thing. I’ve seen it in my own life.
I’ve also seen what happens when I try to do things my way, running everything through my own calculations and my own mind games instead. I always feel spiritually dry whenever my prayer life goes empty.
But the moment you put God first, the moment you pray for today and exalt Him, everything else shrinks. Every problem you thought was so big suddenly looks small next to Him.
God is bigger than our problems. I’ve seen it, again and again, in my own life. He has used my hardest circumstances to teach me, and then carried me to places that completely changed who I am.
Giving Up Is Not an Option

We are here for a purpose. We were sent here for a reason, and there are things God has set out for us to accomplish.
The times we’re living in test people right at their limit — but you have to understand there is a reason God created you for this exact moment. He doesn’t make mistakes.
He has a purpose for your life, and communing with Him every day through prayer opens spiritual doors to hear from Him.
In the name of Jesus, I have to be honest with you — learning to put your trust in God isn’t always easy.
But that trust is what gives you the strength to hope, to hold onto the vision, to keep the inspiration to pursue life day after day, even when you’re still facing the same struggles.
Finding Strength in the Waiting

Put God first. Learn to listen for what He’s saying through meditation, through prayer, through the people your heart tells you He’s placed in your life for a reason.
You can come out of the darkest seasons. God can pull you out of anything. Nothing is impossible for Him. As Isaiah 40:31 reminds us, those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength.
I believe everyone has a reason for existing.
And one day, you’ll wake up and realize that trusting God — that faith — has completely shifted and changed your life. You won’t even recognize your past self anymore. That’s the power of God.
Whatever you’re facing today — whether it’s stress from work, a season that’s testing your mental and emotional health, or just the quiet exhaustion of showing up day after day — God asks you to give it to Him honestly. He doesn’t need you to give Him a version of yourself that has it all together.
Trusting God Through Every Circumstance

Prayer is believing that God will take you where He promised He would. It’s humbling yourself before the Almighty because you’ve put your trust in Him.
So no matter your circumstance, no matter where you are, no matter what you’re feeling right now — trust God. Really believe Him.
Listen to His words daily, and walk in His commandments. As Christians, we’re living as citizens of a kingdom, and every kingdom has principles we’re called to live by — those are simply the commandments of the King.
To understand what’s expected of us, we have to open our Bibles, read, and let His word take root. Faith comes by hearing — hearing the word of God.
And that seed inside you will grow and grow, until one day you look back four or five years from now and can’t even recognize how far you’ve come.
Some days life feels like more than you can carry, and that’s okay to admit. You might feel discouraged, tired of struggling today the same way you were struggling yesterday, wondering when things will actually change. I’ve been there.
But feeling discouraged doesn’t mean God has stepped back — it usually means you’re right in the middle of the exact season He’s using to grow you.
Sometimes it’s not one big thing — it’s the mental weight of everything at once: the work you haven’t finished, the thoughts that won’t quiet down at night, the health of your body and spirit both feeling worn thin. God doesn’t ask you to have it figured out. He just asks you to give Him what you’re carrying, one honest moment at a time.
A Daily Prayer for Strength When You Want to Quit
Thank You, Lord, for always being there for me and not giving up on me. Thank You for Your mercy every morning, and for the strength You provide exactly when I need it, and for blessing my life. Help me to keep trusting, to keep believing, and to keep showing up for this day. I believe You are with me always, and I will not give up.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
If what you’re feeling goes beyond a hard season — if it’s been heavy for a long time, or feels like more than you can carry — please don’t just pray through it alone. Talking to a therapist or counselor alongside your faith isn’t a lack of trust in God; it’s wisdom, and support like that can help alongside prayer, not instead of it.
